There are several stages to follow when removing the front fairing:

Stage 1: Remove the screen
Stage 2: Remove the mirrors
Stage 3: Remove the cowling inner cover
Stage 4: Remove the meter panel
Stage 5: Remove the body cowling

You can skip stage three and remove the body cowling with the cowling inner in place but it is a tight squeeze to pull it off and not so easy.

Be organised, make sure you have a decent container for the removed fixings and somewhere soft to place the parts once removed. Here is the process broken down into individual steps:

Step 1 – Removing the windscreen
Remove the six screws as shown that hold the screen in place. Four are screwed into rubber cups designed to expand when tightened. Once the screws are removed from these cups they need to be pulled out as well. Grip the screen firmly at the top and pull backwards – it will come out!

Step 2 – Removing the mirrors
The mirrors are held in place with two bolts each and have caps pushed into their tops.
Use a screwdriver or similar to lever the caps out. Undo the two bolts revealed to take the mirrors off.

Step 3 – Removing the inner cowling cover (1)
Remove the two screws shown from both the left and the right of the bike.

Step 4 – Removing the inner cowling cover (2)
Release the two fasteners found on the left and right by pushing the centre of the fastener and then withdrawing the fastener from the hole.

Step 5 – Removing the inner cowling cover (3)
When the screws and fasteners are removed push and twist the edges of the cowling cover until they pop out from the sides of the bike. Now pull the cover downwards and try to slide backwards. It feels very awkward, almost as if it will snap but this part does seem very robust. I kept on fiddling, pulling and moving the cover until it came off. Not elegant but next time it will be a lot easier (its a technique thing). Here is a picture of the inner cowling cover.

Step 6 – Removing the inner cowling cover (4)
And here is a picture of the lugs that locate into the body cowling at the front of the bike. Once you have released the sides the downward and backward movement is to free these lugs.

Step 7 – Removing the meter panel (1)
Remove the screws as shown left and right

Step 8 – Removing the meter panel (2)
Remove the fastener as shown by pressing firmly in the middle and then withdraw the fastener once released. The meter panel is now free to be removed from the bike.

Step 9 – Removing the body cowling (1)
Unplug the lighting and indicator assembly coupler as shown

Step 10 – Removing the body cowling (2)
Remove the two screws as shown left and right.

Step 11 – Removing the body cowling (3)
The body cowling is now supported by two lugs inserted into the cowling brace as shown and two lugs per mirror mounting point. Lift the body cowling over the mirror mounting point lugs and then, standing in front of the bike, pull the body cowling towards you to free the cowling from the lugs in the cowling brace.

The front fairing assembly is now removed and your bike should look like this. Refitting is a reversal of all the previous steps.
