Front Fender Extender

By AndyW Sept 2003

Looks like I'm first to receive my Pyramid Fenda Entenda - fitted these to two previous bikes and again decent quality (for less than £17) and a very good fit.......recommended.

No real need for fitting instructions as there are more than enough with the kit - few tips though:

1) Tools: 10mm open ended spanner, 4mm Allen key, pair long nosed pliers, masking tape, 2.5mm drill bit

2) Four securing screws provided but I fitted five for a tighter/closer fit

3) To remove the brake line retaining clips pinch the 'prongs' that protrude on the underside of the mudguard gently with long nosed pliers whilst pushing upwards

4) Having removed the 2 10mm bolts and 2 Allen bolts securing the mudguard (= fender) you will need to squeeze the mudguard behind the fork legs to enable it to be pulled forward through them - with the benefit of hind sight it would be a good idea to drag a bit of cloth down between the fork legs on both sides of the mudguard before pulling the mudguard through (especially when reinstalling as the mudguard is braced a little by the addition of the Extenda)

5) To find the centre point of the mudguard for hole drilling:
With the Extenda held in place by the self adhesive tape provided (note the warning Pyramid give re positioning the Extenda carefully before pressing home as the tape has a contact adhesive), draw a length of string around the seam formed between the mudguard and the Extenda, cut to the length of the 'seam' and then cut the resulting length of string in half. Hey presto, means of finding centre point.
Stick some masking tape on the bottom of the mudguard so that you can pencil mark for drilling (and reduce likelihood of slips with the drill bit.
Cut string again to desired lengths to allow equi-distant positioning of further drill points on either side of the Extenda. I placed the holes 8mm up from the edge of the mudguard.

cue various photos.............

"....Personally, I don't like them...never have done on any bike, think it spoils the looks! "

My photos don't do it justice....it's really unobtrusive being black and as Pyramid have done such a good job on the styling (shape of it) it does not look out of place. Besides, for this one, function out ways looks (unlike Ducrapi's "form before function"!).

"....Its a shame they don't do a colour matched one"

...personally I don't think that would look right as it would make the mudguard look big whereas the black Extenda gets 'lost' against the tyre.  (Update 03/2003...who knows they may do colour coded or Carbon look Extendas now - check their web site out)

Update:
I found that under heavy braking the bottom of my radiator guard just 'bruises' the Extenda......sorted this now by putting a gentle curve in the rad guard to give extra clearance (not an issue for bikes without rad guards).

...and fitted to a Blue SV (Skidz's bike)...the Suzuki sticker is easy to remove which I chose to do on mine.
