Fitting Frame Sliders
(frame mounting point 1)

These instructions were based around the installation of SV Mania sliders but the basic install is the same for any sliders that mount to the main engine/frame mounts. Don't take this FAQ by BJAM as any recommendation for these particular sliders ;-)

Starting with the kit - you get a plastic bag containing two crash bungs and a set of French instructions. OK, cue AltaVista's Babel Fish Translation Service Bebel Fish and the instructions went from this:

Procedure de montage
Roulettes de protection SV1000 / SV650

Démontez la broche qui traverse le cadre et les carter entre les deux cylinders, prenez la broche et passez la dans la roulette non filetée, passez la dans le cadre de gauche à droite, prenez la roulette filetée et vissez la sur la broche à droite, montez les deux champignons, serrez les deux vis sans tête.

To this:

Procedure of assembly
Casters of protection SV1000/SV650
Dismount the pin which crosses the framework and the casing between the two cylinders, take the pin and pass it in the not threaded caster, pass it within the framework of left on the right, take the threaded caster and screw it on the pin on the right, assemble two mushrooms, tighten the two set screws.

So tools at 10 paces I started the fitting.

Next thing to do is remove the engine bolt as shown in the picture below. You will need two 17mm sockets to stop the bolt rotating as the nut is undone. Take a look at the picture below and see the corrosion on the engine bolt :o - this is only after 4 months.

The nut in the picture is not reused as the crash bung on the left of the picture (fitted to the right hand side of the bike) is threaded and takes it place. The two caps on the crash bungs are held on by grub screws, easily removed using an Allen key.

When taking the engine bolt out I heard something drop and remembered Warren had mentioned an engine spacer. Sure enough, it had dropped down but not out. On further examination this is no show stopper and is very easy to put back in place when re-inserting the bolt. For your reference I have taken a photo and scanned a diagram from the manual (overkill?)

OK, so the bolt threads through the unthreaded crash bung, back through the frame from the left hand side (as viewed when sitting on the bike), the repositioned spacer and the second crash bung is screwed on the end. Now go get yourself a decent Torque Wrench with certificate of accuracy, set it to 93N-m (9.3 kgf-m, 67.5 lb-ft) and tighten that bolt real good.

Put the caps back onto the end of the bungs, do up the grub screws and voila, the job is complete. Took me around 10 mins including taking the pictures.
